Student Health Insurance

The University of Richmond sponsors a student health insurance plan to ensure that all students have access to adequate health insurance to protect against the increasing cost of medical care.

The plan is provided by Aetna Student Health - providing high quality, innovative and competitively priced health insurance programs for college and university students since 1980.  Aetna Student Health is one of the largest and most respected health care organizations in the United States, and offers an extensive nationwide network of physicians, hospitals, and pharmacies to higher education institutions across the nation.  The plan is underwritten by Aetna Life Insurance Company.

Domestic Students

All full-time and part-time degree-seeking undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to enroll voluntarily in the Aetna student health insurance plan, and may gain immediate access by beginning the enrollment process online at

While some students may elect to continue their current coverage or establish health insurance elsewhere, we believe that other students may not have access to an affordable healthcare plan, or have benefits covering care outside of their home state while attending the University of Richmond.  It is important to review your situation to determine the best plan or coverage options that may suit your individual health care needs.

International Students

All international students on non-immigrant visas at the University of Richmond are required to purchase the Aetna student health insurance plan.  International students are automatically enrolled in the plan by the Office of International Education.  Please see Health Insurance for International Students or contact Krittika Onsanit at (804) 287-6499 for more information.
